Here Lies Man are the L.A. based quintet founded and conceptualized by Marcos Garcia of Antibalas, bringing his erudite experience of West African rhythms and music to the more riff-based foundations of heavy rock. Extra prize for that cover. Killer.

THE GOVENOR No. 6: DAVID AXELROD

Wax Poetics posted this great interview with David Axelrod from Big Daddy Magazine.

David Axelrod’s life is sensational. Forget for a minute that the man produced some of the finest R&B and jazz albums of the 1960s for luminaries such as Lou Rawls and Cannonball Adderley. Forget Axelrod the visionary who, long before Shadow and his sampling contemporaries “endtroduced” themselves to the musical world, created the blueprint for classical melodies melded with the funkiest of backbeats. This interview would be worth reading for the intense anecdotes that characterize David Axelrod’s life.

'CARE HOME' SINGLE & REMIXES AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE

Care Home is the second single from the forthcoming album GOTHS!!! by Jacob Yates and the Pearly Gate Lock Pickers, it is an unflinching dub that stares into the abyss into which many fall.

It is brutal, honest, uncomfortable and describes real horror. A walk through the dark corridors of the human mind. Deep in this twisting, confusing, endless maze, the band plays.

'You don't want to come in here, each one of us is bad...’

Remixed by Sordid Sound System (Green Door Studios, Glasgow) with a ‘baggy as f**k’ take on the original and completed with a vintage Dub version by A La Fu & Lotek (Va Va, Roots Manuva, Big Dada).

THE GOSPEL 7" IN RECORD STORES TODAY

The Gospel According to the Selfish Gene is the first single from the album Goths!!! by Jacob Yates & the Pearly Gate Lock Pickers and is a life affirming rail against blind acceptance, a secular Gospel anthem. On the flipside Cassie Ezeji (Golden Teacher) delivers heartbreak on the Jacob Lovatt penned (non-album version) 'The Tigris' a nightmare song of loss set in a place that has lost so much. Life is chaotic, dark and unpleasant, the lyrics and music don't shy from this awful truth. Also available via our site here.
